After watching the latest John Wick movie, I can't help but notice the similarities between the two franchises.
Here are some of it:
1. Keanu plays Thomas Anderson and John Wick respectively. Both first names are apostles, which probably signifies a religious meaning. Both franchises have messages of salvation.
2. John was fighting the established order in the High Table. Neo was fighting the established environment which was the rule of the machines.
3. Laurence Fishburne guided Keanu as Morpheus and the Bowery King,
4. The numerous assassins in the John Wick movies are like the agents of the Matrix movies - they want Keanu dead.
5. French-inspired adversaries (or actors?) like the Merovingian and the Marquis. Though the latter looked very young to wield such a position and power. A middle-aged man would have been appropriate. Both represented high-class.
6. The Merovingian represented the older versions of the Matrix. The Marquis represented the old system of the assassins.
7. Keanu fought on equal terms with Seraph and Caine - both played by Asians and wearing black glasses.
8. At the end of the films (3rd in Matrix, 4th in John Wick), a sunrise is shown - indicating hope and a bright future.
9. Both franchises have four movies apiece.
10. Neo followed the rabbit. John avenged his dog.
11. Neo fought for humanity. John fought for himself.
12. Neo negotiated with Deus Ex Machina. John killed the Elder.
13. The last Matrix movie was a flop. The last John Wick movie was a success.
14. Neo had to fight through doors and elevators to reach the Architect. John had to fight through stairs to reach the Marquis.
