This is a very interesting statement coming from the head honcho of the AFP.
If we are to check the recent sequence of events, there appears to be no reason why retired soldiers would stage a coup. Marcos Jr is mild-mannered though not competent but he is not brash and ultra-aggressive like PDuterte.
Why would the chief say something as startling like this?
One theory is to prevent the spread of warmongers by appealing to the common soldier from top to bottom. If he does know that retired officers are behind the coup, then these retired officers should have an influence on their juniors who are active in the military. This appears to be a pre-emptive tactic to stop the coup at its tracks.
But who is could be the mastermind behind the coup (wild guess)? There is no genuine opposition. There is only the administration camp between the BBM and the Dutz faction.
Interesting to note that all these things happened a few weeks after VPres Sara's confidential funds were removed. The OP gave confidential funds to the OVP. It appears that there is an agreement or an appeasement by the BBM camp to Sarah's camp. All these confidential funds were removed due to public pressure and with the house under Romualdez (GMA vs Romualdez had their own drama). The "free" money is gone.
Another source for discontent could be the restructuring of the pension system? PDutz appeased
the PNP and AFP by increasing their salaries on top of PNoy's SSL4. Diokno initially was opposed to this but succumbed to his former boss' wishes. Now, BBM is inheriting a bloated payroll on top of unpaid retirements.
Is the honeymoon over? During Pdutz time, he helped the Marcos clan (burial, etc) and during the elections, Sara had a free run as VP by using BBM's money and PDutz machinery to "win" the elections.
PDutz inherited a strong economy from PNoy. BBM inherited a bad economy from PDutz. How he will solve the nation's ills is questionable but with Sara and her handlers at his doorsteps, another problem is added to the tenure of his presidency.
