A Tale of Two Appointments

In a somewhat confusing move, PBBM appointed two officials of contrasting character and backgrounds. The first has shining credentials and extensive financial background while the second has a questionable track record and no experience in poverty-alleviation.

On July 2, Marcos appointed the next BSP chief who would replace Felipe Medalla - Eli Remolona. An experienced banker with stints at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Bank for International Settlements, he looks poised to bring his more than 30+ years of experience to benefit the central bank.

I personally think the BSP was in very good hands since Tetangco and declined with Diokno. Benjamin agreed, despite initially having reservations, to Pdutz doubling-down of salaries of uniformed personnel. With issues hounding the retirement of these services, it exacerbated the problem. Not to mention the minting of the new 5 and 10 peso coins, which is confusing due to the similar color and size to the previous issue. And who could forget the ugly new BSP logo and the new 1k eagle note that no one wants to use? Abaca-made notes works why use something new. All these look like gratuitous expenses.

On June 26, Marcos appointed newly disbarred lawyer Larry Gadon as presidential advisor for poverty alleviation. Seriously? What experience does Larry have on the plight of the poor? I haven't seen a good deed from Dirty Larry except for being an attacked dog by Pdutz and PBBM. Is this a consolation for his disbarment? Gadon is not an exemplary lawyer like Carpio or Divina, the latter coming from humble backgrounds. Gadon, Panelo, Pdutz are the type of lawyers that aspiring graduates need not emulate. The end justifies the means. They are willing to work outside of the law to get what they want.

Just a week's difference: PBBM appoints a competent man while the other is beyond incompetent.
