Annual Renewal of LTO Registration

Steps in Renewing Annual Car Registration

1. Secure CTPL (Comprehensive Third Party Liability Insurance). Expected cost around 1k depending on vehicle type.

2. Visit nearest MVIS (Motor Vehicle Inspection System) center. Expected cost around 1.5k to 2k plus Php100 for stencil.

3. Once done, visit your nearest LTO office for the renewal. You can get a package to have this processed by the MVIS but this is costly.

4. When visiting the LTO office, prepare photocopy of your car's Certificate of Registration, previous year's Official Receipt registration, and the forms from MVIS.

5. If no findings and in good standing, proceed to payment. Expected cost around 1.5k depending on vehicle type.

6. CTPL, MVIS were done fast. Processing at LTO Robinsons's Galleria took approximately 3-4 hours despite being scheduled.

Renewal of Car Registration at LTO Talisay

Finally, after a  few days of delay due to the late upload of my plate number (given last 2018 but not uploaded by LTO, no advise from casa to have plate uploaded into the system), I was able to renew my car's registration.

LTO Talisay, Cebu

I arrived at LTO Talisay around 7:45AM and by that time, around 60 numbers have been given already. It pays to arrive early and be first in line.

 When to Renew Car Registration

Here are some of the items that you need to bring before having your car registration renewed:

1. CTPL

2. Emission Test

Once you have this, the next step will be to have your vehicle checked by an LTO employee.

So why did I renew at LTO Talisay and not in Cebu? I was advised by a colleague that the registration in LTO Cebu is expensive because it has been privatized. I'm not familiar with the rates but I did read some news about exorbitant fees collected.

After the inspection, you will pay the fees and get your updated car registration receipt.

Overall,  it was a good experience. The staff and guards were friendly and accommodating. The only downside is the slow internet or software they are using for the registration.

Frustrating Experience in Renewing Car Registration

It was a very frustrating experience when I tried to renew my car registration this week. Since I failed to renew on time, a penalty is in store once this process is done.

But before we get into any of that, here are the items that you need for the renewal:

1. CTPL (Compulsory Third Party Liability Insurance)

2. MVIS (Motor Vehicle Inspection Report)

3. Emission Test

4. Renewal at LTO Office

Here in Cebu, the old plate numbers use to start at A but was changed to G. When I got my plate number, the car dealer installed the plate and the LTO sticker.

When i was about to renew my car registration, my old plate (A) was still the one available in the system, and not the G one.

So my questions are:

1. Why did LTO issue the plates and the stickers if the new plates are not yet uploaded in the system?

2. Why didn't the car dealership give me an instruction that I need to visit LTO to have my new plates uploaded?

How could have avoided this? Start renewing your car's registration at the start of the week.
