A trio of major infrastructure projects announced for Cebu

The infrastructure push in Cebu is set to continue with three new projects recently announced by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Central Visayas. Two flyovers and an underpass were proposed with each one aimed to ease congestion in the city. Work is tentatively expected to be completed in 2037.

There will be two separate flyovers, one on Natalio Bacalso Avenue and the other set for P. Del Rosario Street. The underpass would connect Cebu South Coastal Road to F. Vestil Street in front of SM Seaside Cebu City.

Local officials announced the project has begun its Detailed Engineering Design process which includes the survey of surrounding areas, the application of the feasibility study in the design and the actual design of the three infrastructure according to media reports.

CEDCO Engineering was chosen as the contractor for the project, and the firm will submit its findings to the DPWH once finished.
Infrastructure helps support the Cebu property market

An emphasis on infrastructure has helped fueled growth in the Cebu property market. In addition to the proposed flyovers and underpass, work on several other notable projects remains ongoing.

One of the most important projects under construction is the 8.25-kilometer Cebu-Cordova bridge that should unlock new areas of Cebu for development. David Leechiu, Leechiu Property Consultants Chief Executive Officer, told the SunStar Philippines last year that the new bridge could convince more developers to build in this area.

“The third Mactan bridge bodes positive news for real estate. The Municipality of Cordova will be seen to reap the biggest economic boom from the third bridge. Land values and property developments will rise,” Leechiu explained.

While real estate and land prices have increased during the past few years, these future infrastructure projects mean there is room for further growth, according to Leechiu. The fourth Mactan bridge, the monorail transport system, Bus Rapid Transit project and the Metro Cebu Expressway are just a few projects in the pipeline.
